A Western North Carolina man has been sentenced to a decade in prison after holding two people at gunpoint last year. Court documents say 23 year old, Evan Blankenship of Asheville has been convicted of attempted kidnapping and being armed during the commission of a crime.
The charges come after an incident last September where Blankenship drove his vehicle down the Blue Ridge Parkway where he found two victims were sitting in a parked vehicle; Blankenship approached, pointed a gun at them and tried to pull one of the victims from their vehicle. The victims were able to convince Blankenship to let them go and reported the incident.
One of the victims told police she knew the suspect from Snapchat and that Blankenship used the platform's location sharing feature to find her.
Blankenship was sentenced to 10 years in prison with three years of supervised release to follow.
