A suspect was taken into custody over the weekend following a manhunt, after he allegedly assaulted an officer and eluded arrest. On Friday night, the Laurens Police Department was alerted to a stolen vehicle by one of the city's new automated license plate readers.
The suspect, 25 year old Caleb Howard was initially taken into custody by the Laurens PD and transported to an area hospital for treatment. He then reportedly assaulted an officer and ran on foot. SLED, the Clinton Police Department and Laurens County Sheriff's Office then all assisted in trying to track Howard. A SLED helicopter was used in the search.
Howard was eventually located and taken into custody after a brief altercation with officers and a short foot chase. The manhunt for Howard lasted around 6 hours before he was captured. Howard faces charges of grand larceny and unlawful escape and a list of other charges.
