Suspect charged in two murder cases in the mountains

Murder in the mountains has a Western North Carolina woman facing charges in two separate fatal incidents with of them being a cold case from nearly two decades ago.

The Henderson County Sheriff's Office says Michael Schmidt was killed there in 2007. Now, nearly two decades later a suspect has been named.

Investigators say, Gudrun Casper-Leinenkugel has been charged in connection to Schmidt's murder. She is also charged in connection to the murder of Leela Livis.

The Sheriff's Office reports that during the Livis murder investigation that evidence linking the suspect to Schmidt's murder was discovered.
