Wildfires have wreaked havoc on Western North Carolina over the past week. Last week officials reported wildfires in Swain, Haywood, Rutherford and Mitchell Counties.
A blaze in Pisgah National Forest that started last Monday had reportedly burned over 300 acres. The Fox Gap Fire in the Smoky Mountains of Swain County burned over 100 acres, last week. A smaller fire was reported near Lake Lure in Rutherford County.
On Saturday, firefighters responded to a fire in the Turkey Cove Community of McDowell County. By that night the wildfire was reportedly 80% contained.
