A suspect is dead following a shootout with law enforcement after they reportedly ambushed an officer. The Greenville Police Department says an officer was ambushed in what seemingly was a targeted attack.
The incident happened at the Greenville County Law Enforcement Center, just before 2AM Sunday. The Greenville County Sheriff's Office says the suspect was located about an hour later near Roper Mountain Road.
A short chase ensued which ended with a shootout in a parking lot near Independence Boulevard. Suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. The officer who was ambushed was injured and was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover.
The identity of the suspect has not been released, as of this time. SLED is investigating the shooting which is standard protocol for law enforcement involved shootings, statewide.
