A suspect is dead after a police pursuit that started in North Georgia ended with him drowning in an Upstate lake. Around 10 PM Monday night, Deputies from the Sheriff's Office in Franklin County Georgia, attempted to stop a vehicle after it was clocked at 125 MPH on I-85. The Dodge Charger was registered to a woman from Greenwood.
The driver tried to elude Deputies and led them on a chase. He then hit another vehicle on the Lake Hartwell Bridge at the Georgia/South Carolina line. The suspect then jumped off the bridge and into the water. He went under, Deputies unsuccessfully tried to rescue him using a rope.
The man's body was found hours later on the Oconee County side of the lake. The Oconee County Coroner's Office is trying to ID the man, but he had ID with two different names on them.
