A Mexican immigrant has been sentenced to prison after a deadly shooting in Western North Carolina. The Asheville Police Department responded to a shooting at a home on East Oakview Road in September of 2023.
Upon arrival officers found the victim 37 year old, Ismael Munoz suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, he was later pronounced dead. 47 year old, Mexican National Arturo Cordero Martinez was later arrested in Indiana after an investigation.
He was originally charged with murder, but that was reduced to voluntary manslaughter. Court records say Munoz pulled a gun during a fight. A struggle for the gun ensued and Martinez then fired the weapon at Munoz multiple times.
Martinez will spend between just over 4 years and more than 6 years in prison.
