The woman who called Spartanburg County 9-1-1 saying she had shot two people at a local apartment complex is now charged with two counts of murder. Sheriff's Deputies took 30 year old Kayla Michelle Benton in custody at the scene of the shootings , Thursday afternoon.

She is charged  with killing 32-year-old Sherman Armand Sims and 38-year-old Susan Marie Gonzalez. The arrest warrant says Benton knew both of the victims and had been with them for at least 24 hours before they were shot in a room of Hometown Studios on Mobile Drive.

The coroner says both had multiple gunshot wounds and died within two minutes of each other. Homicide investigators say Benton had made a case for self-defense, but that the evidence does not back up her story.

She faces trial on  two counts of murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and possession of a firearm by a felon.
