The suspect fatally shot in a deputy-involved shooting earlier this week has been identified.
Authorities responded to a home on Carver Street Tuesday afternoon as part of an ongoing narcotics investigation.
While at the location, a deputy noticed the suspect, now identified as 36-year-old Justin Barrett McCarrell, was armed and fired multiple shots at McCarrell.
He was taken to the nearby Greenville Memorial Hospital, where he later died from multiple gunshot wounds.
An autopsy of McCarrell yesterday (Wednesday) led to authorities classifying McCarrell’s death as a homicide.
Officials announced that the deputies involved in the incident are being placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation into the shooting. This includes the sole deputy who fired at McCarrell.
Additional details on the shooting, including body camera footage, are set to be released late next month.
