An Asheville man will spend at least 5 and a half years in prison after he shot a man who owed him just 40 dollars.
The Buncombe County District Attorney's Office says Terrence Lamont Burt Jr. pleaded guilty to assault with a deadly weapon and shooting into an occupied dwelling.
The charges stem from an incident last September when Asheville police responded to a report of shots fired and found an elderly man who had been shot multiple times.
The victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Investigators say the shooting happened over an unpaid 40 dollar drug debt. The victim was eventually discharged from the hospital and decided not to testify.
Burt has been sentenced and will serve a minimum of 5 and a half years with a possible max of 7 and a half years.
