A deputy involved shooting is under investigation by SLED for the second time this week in Anderson County, in what Sheriff Chad McBride described as an ambush.
Deputies were attempting to conduct a traffic stop of a motorcyclist just after 11PM Thursday night on Mimosa Trail near Airline Road. But the biker fired a gun at deputies in their patrol vehicle, striking it several times.
Deputies returned fire striking the biker who was taken to a hospital for treatment. The biker died of their injuries at a hospital.
The Anderson county Coroner's Office has identified the suspect as 39 year-old Robert Allen Maness of Anderson.
Deputies shot and killed another suspect Tuesday after a high speed chase of a stolen Camaro. The driver, 40-year-old Jonathan Zachery Combs, pulled a gun on deputies as the chase ended on Highway 8 in Anderson County. Combs was shot and killed.
SLED is investigating both shootings which is standard procedure. No deputies were injured in either shooting.
