Suspect wanted for 2016 murder in the Upstate taken into custody

A man wanted for a murder in the Upstate is now in custody after being on the run for nearly 6 years. U.S. Marshals in Oregon have announced the arrest of 33 year old, John Tufton Blauvelt. He was an Army recruiter in the Greenville area before deserting his post following his wife's murder.

Catherine Blauvelt was found stabbed to death in an abandoned house in Simpsonville in October of 2016. Weeks later, the Simpsonville Police Department obtained warrants for Blauvelt for her murder and a weapons violation.

Blauvelt fled the area with his then 17 year old girlfriend, Hannah Thompson of Fountain Inn. She had been reported missing in November 2016 by her family. Thompson was found safe in Oregon in December of 2016, after Baluvelt abandoned her.

Earlier this year, U.S. Marshals learned Blauvelt had assumed the alias "Ben Klein", they also learned of his whereabouts. He was arrested Wednesday in Medford , Oregon and taken into custody without incident.
