
Winter storm Izzy has brought havoc to the Upstate and Western North Carolina. The storm has caused thousands of power outages, treacherous road conditions and numerous wrecks, a partial roof collapse at a college and closures.
As of this morning (Monday), Duke Energy reports that over 8,000 of their customers in the Upstate are without power. Laurens County seems to be the most affected with 3,000 customers without power. Around 2,000 in Oconee County still are without power and over 1,000 each in Greenwood, Pickens, and Union Counties. Blue Ridge Electric reports as of this morning, over 2,000 customers out in Oconee County and around 1,000 in Pickens County. Duke says the main issue causing outages is ice build up on trees, branches and power lines. Below is a look at Duke's updated outage map for Monday morning.

A healthcare system has cancelled outpatient services for Monday. They also say all Medical Group of the Carolinas practices are closed as well. Countless wrecks have been reported around the Upstate due to the treacherous road conditions from the winter weather. Brevard College in Western, NC reports that the roof of a building there partially collapsed Sunday afternoon due to the storm. The college says nobody was hurt in the incident at Jones Residence Hall and all students were safely evacuated.
Here are the reported snowfall accumulations around the Upstate and Western NC. Greenville reporting 5.5 to 6 inches, Greer with 6 inches, Travelers Rest a whopping 9.5 inches. Spartanburg coming in at 8 inches, Mauldin and Simpsonville both reporting 5 inches, Boiling Springs at 6. Pickens with 7 inches, Salem/ Northern Oconee County 6 inches and Anderson 2 inches. In Western NC, Asheville with 6 inches, Cashiers with 9, Hendersonville with 10, Waynesville 11 and Flat Rock reporting a foot of snow.
