Tornado warning lifted in Greenville area

Severe Weather Alert

The remnants of Tropical Storm Fred moved north through the Southeast impacting weather in the upstate Tuesday afternoon. Several tornado warnings were issued and there were reports of scattered damage, but no reports of injuries so far.

Local stations shared social media posts of what appears to be trees down in the Pendleton area of Anderson ​County as well as some type of metal debris in Mauldin in Greenville County.


One tornado warning in Greenville County prompted Greenville County Schools to issue a shelter in place order for students just after 3PM. Buses were also grounded. However, the all clear was given by District officials around 3:25PM and students were dismissed and buses resumed their schedule.

As of 4PM Tuesday, Duke Energy was reporting on their website outage map about 1,000 customers without power throughout the upstate.  Most of the outages were in Greenville and Anderson counties.

The City of Greenville posted on their website Tuesday afternoon that a power pole on Augusta Street between Augusta Place and Oregon Street was struck by lightning earlier this afternoon and Augusta Street is closed in both directions until approximately 9 p.m.
