The trial for a man accused of kidnapping a Clemson student with a knife got underway, Monday morning. Investigators say, that in 2024 Darrell Scott Brooks approached a Clemson student and claimed to be a university employee whose vehicle had broken down.
The student agreed to give him a ride and Brooks forced the student to pull over on Fants Grove Road and attacked her with a knife. A passer by heard the woman screaming for help and created a distraction which allowed the victim to escape.
Brooks then reportedly took the victim's vehicle and fled into Oconee County. He was taken into custody after a chase ended with Brooks crashing the vehicle.
