Two women have been charged in an alleged scam that stretched the East Coast. During a Stuff the Cruiser event at the Walmart in Laurens County Friday, Police arrested two women after witnesses said they were scamming customers into giving them money, gift cards and specific items from inside the store.
Police said receipts found inside a van they were using showed they had been doing this up and down the East Coast. Police Chief Keith Grounsell said he believed Lidia Varga and Lasmina Rostas defrauded people and stores of tens of thousands of dollars, while using a young boy and infant traveling with them to carry out their scam.
The two women were arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit fraud and cruetly to children among other charges. The children have been placed into the custody of DSS.
