Two people in Horry County have been charged for their alleged involvement in a November 24th cross burning incident.
The Federal Bureau of Investigations searched a home near Conway, South Carolina Wednesday morning, where the event happened as a part of an “ongoing criminal civil rights investigation involving allegations of racial discrimination,” according to the agency.
Authorities in Horry County have charged Alexis Hartnett and Worden Butler, who live at the home, with second-degree harassment in the November cross-burning incident. The two allegedly put up the cross facing a neighbor’s home and set it on fire.
Horry County News outlets report a family member of Harnett says she suffers from mental health issues and has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
The FBI continues to investigate the matter with the help of local and state partners as well as the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
