A weekend mass shooting rocked the largest city in Western North Carolina. The Asheville Police Department responded to a reported shooting on Biltmore Avenue, just before 2:30AM Sunday.
Upon arrival, officers found two people who were pronounced dead at the scene. Seven others were injured in the shooting and were taken to Mission Hospital to be treated. No arrests have been announced, as of this time. The shooting remains under investigation.
However, police say preliminary findings indicate that the incident may have stemmed from a prior episode of gun violence. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Asheville Police Department at 828-252-1110. The identities of the deceased have not been released.
