The State newspaper in Columbia reports the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office says a two year old girl died Wednesday night when the child was accidentally shot.
Deputies responded to the Sherwood Forest Apartments in Lugoff after a 9 1 1 called said a child had accidentally shot herself after picking up a gun off a dresser.
Law enforcement and first responders were unsuccessful in their efforts to save the child. The coroner's office has not identified the child and there is no word yet on any charges.
The shooting is under investigation by the Sheriff's Office, County Coroner and SLED.
