Last summer, the case was re-examined and Cold Case Investigators determined that 44 year old Roger Keith Hudgens was responsible for the murder. It was learned that Hudgens did various odd jobs around the dry cleaning business. Investigators re-interviewed witnesses and learned of Hudgens intent to rob the business that day.

They later learned that Hudgens had died in 2008 from medical complications. Sheriff Hobart Lewis released a statement commending the unit saying " My message to the community of fallen victim families is that we will never give up.”
