Upstate Coroner warns public after Kratom related deaths
Anderson County Coroner's Office

An Upstate Coroner is warning residents after multiple deaths related to a substance being sold in stores. Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore says the county has seen multiple deaths related to Kratom.

The substance is marketed as all-natural but Shore says it acts as a stimulant and has opioid like effects. Kratom is sold legally at gas stations, vape shops and other stores. It also reportedly comes in various forms.

The warning comes after Shore says Kratom played a factor in multiple recent deaths across Anderson County. Shore says with Kratom not being regulated it is easy for users to consume dangerous amounts without realizing it.
