Upstate Deputy identified after weekend arrest and firing

Upstate Deputy identified after weekend arrest and firing
Pickens County Sheriff's Office

More details have now been released after an Upstate deputy was fired following a weekend arrest. As we previously reported, Pickens County Sheriff Tommy Blankenship released a Facebook video regarding the firing of a deputy following a weekend arrest within the county.

Since then, the Deputy has been identified as 44 year old, Joseph Williamson. He was arrested after officers from the Easley Police Department responded to a reported hit and run there, Saturday. Officers encountered Williamson and determined he was driving under the influence.

A subsequent search of his vehicle uncovered multiple pill bottles. Officials say the bottles were not prescribed to Williamson and the contents inside didn't match the labels. Williamson is charged with intent to distribute a controlled substance, possession of narcotics, hit and run, and DUI.

Sheriff Blakenship says he has already called SLED into investigate.
