Upstate deputy uses pit maneuver to stop dangerous driver

Actions by Upstate deputies helped prevent disaster for motorists in the Upstate this afternoon. The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office says, a man driving a Buick sedan pulled out in front of deputies around 1 PM and began driving dangerously.

Deputies attempted a traffic stop, but the driver refused, stop sticks were then deployed. However, the driver still wouldn't stop and began driving on the wrong side of I-26.

He continued to travel in the wrong lane near Fairforest Elementary. That is when Sheriff Chuck Wright gave the order for the deputy to take the Buick off the road.

The deputy then executed a pit maneuver and got the vehicle stopped. No injuries were reported in the incident. The suspect, who has not yet been identified was taken into custody on a list of charges and is being held in the Spartanburg County Jail.
