An Upstate man is dead after collapsing while in police custody Wednesday. The Greenwood County Coroner's Office says, 45 year old Darnell Smith was in the custody of the Greenwood Police Department when he collapsed.
He was transported to Self Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead just after 2:30 Wednesday afternoon. There's no word yet on his cause of death, an autopsy is schedule to be performed on Smith Thursday . SLED has been called in to investigate his death.
