Upstate man pleads guilty to murdering his mother

A Spartanburg man will spend over three decades in prison for the murder of his mother, last year. 30 year old, Marcel Larville Alston entered guilty pleas yesterday to charges of murder, attempted murder and a weapons violation.

The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office responded to the Southern Pines Apartments the morning of April 21st, of last year. Upon arrival deputies found the victim, Audra Rochelle Brown suffering from multiple stab wounds. She later died from her injuries after being transported to a local hospital.

Court documents say, Alston entered his mother's bedroom and attacked her and her boyfriend, Jermaine Austin with a knife. The suspect was later located at a nearby gas station and a bloody knife was found on him during the arrest.

Alston has been sentenced to 35 years for murder and concurrent sentences totaling 35 years for attempted murder and the weapons charge.
