A Spartanburg man has been sentenced to life in prison following a shooting in the Upstate, nearly 18 months ago. 37 year old, Samuel T. Riser was found guilty on charges of attempted murder and a weapons violation, this past week.
The charges stem from an incident in December of 2021 at an apartment complex on Blackstock Road in Spartanburg County. Court documents say, Riser was at his girlfriends and became enraged, an argument ensued and Riser destroyed two TV's in the apartment.
He left and then quickly returned and started firing shots. The victim was shot several times but miraculously did not die in the shooting. The victim's oldest child witnessed the shooting. Riser fled the scene before deputies arrived, his vehicle was found hidden behind a family member's home in Woodruff. Riser turned himself in the day after the shooting.
Judge Scott Sprouse sentenced him to life in prison. Riser's past criminal history included convictions for aggravated assault, domestic violence, multiple drug trafficking charges and unlawful carry of a handgun.
