An Upstate School Administrator could be on the move to the Low Country. Oconee County School Superintendent Dr. Michael Thorsland has been named a finalist for the same position in Horry County.
Thorsland and the two other candidates spoke at a meet and greet at a school in Horry County, Tuesday night. Thorsland has been the Superintendent in Oconee County for the last decade and is a career educator.
Other finalists include Fulton County School Administrator Clifford Jones and Dr. Jonathan Crossley, a Gaffney native who has worked in education in Arkansas for the last 14 years.
Thorsland's contract in Oconee County was extended through 2026 by the School Board, earlier this year. He was also given a raise during that session bringing his annual salary to over $196,000 .
A 2nd round of interviews is set for next week and the hire will be announced December 19th.
