A shooting at an Upstate school turned fatal, as the death of the student victim was announced Thursday evening. He has been identified as 12 year old, Jamari Cortez Bonaparte Jackson. He was shot by another student just before 12:30 PM yesterday at Tanglewood Middle School in Greenville.
Jackson later died at a nearby hospital. Greenville County Sheriff Hobart Lewis spoke about the tragic incident at a press conference Thursday afternoon. The suspect who has not been identified due to being a minor was taken into custody shortly after the shooting.
GCS Superintendent Dr. Burke Royster also spoke at the press conference and commended the work of the 200 law enforcement officers who responded and school officials.
The suspect, a 12 year old male student is charged with Murder, Unlawful Possession Of A Gun By A Minor, Possession of A Weapon During A Violent Crime, and Possession Of A Gun on School Grounds.
