A scammer impersonating an Upstate Sheriff took a victim for thousands of dollars. Reports say a victim received received multiple calls from someone claiming to be with the Department Of Homeland Security.
The victim did not go for the scam until someone claiming to be Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright. The caller told the victim he needed to follow the instructions of Homeland Security.
The Sheriff's Office says the victim made 3 separate payments totaling nearly $4,000. Anyone who has fallen victim to the scam is urged to contact the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office.
