Victim of officer involved shooting getting $700,000 in settlement

shooting victim gets 700k settlement

A then-sixteen year old girl wounded in a shootout between her boyfriend and County Deputies in August of 2020 will collect a 700-thousand dollar settlement.

Although a SLED investigation concluded that the deputies did nothing wrong, the county's insurance company decided to settle the case. The teen's lawyer says she was shot five times, then bitten by the Sheriff's Office K-9 when the deputies found her and 21-year-old Bryan Hamilton, Jr., hiding behind the Lowe's Store on Clemson Boulevard.

The girl said Hamilton had dragged her from his wrecked car at the end of a high-speed chase and forced her to run into the woods with him. The deputies reported they opened fire believing they had been ambushed when they heard a gunshot. As it turned out, that was the shot Hamilton fired when he killed himself. The K-9, "Roscoe," was also hit by the deputies' gunfire and later died of his wounds
