A fiery collision on I-26 in Spartanburg County Saturday resulted in a heart breaking loss for an upstate family. After colliding with a Toyota, a commercial car hauler crossed the cable barrier and struck a Honda sedan occupied by 5 family members.
The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office identified victims as 35-year-old Ashia Ballenger of Campobello, 14-year-old Ashton Olley of Spartanburg, 11-year-old Jaicurious Gist of Spartanburg, and 8-year-old Jalecia Gist of Spartanburg.
The Coroner’s Office beleive's the fifth victim was 57-year-old Leroy Covington of Campobello, but they are still waiting on DNA results to confirm.
Ballenger was the aunt of the children, who all lived at the same home, and Covington, the grandfather. That collision is still under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
