It was a large turnout at a weekend event aimed at saving an Upstate landmark. The fate of the Greenville-Pickens Speedway has been a topic of discussion in recent years. That conversation has ratcheted up in the last few months, as well. Even NASCAR Legend Dale Earnhardt Jr. has weighed in.
On Saturday, hundreds of people came out to support preserving the track. Last month, the Pickens County Planning Commission voted against a proposed three phase redevelopment plan for the speedway. The plan would have called for the track to be torn down.
The rally this past weekend featured local candidates running for office, people from the racing world and elected officials showed their support for saving the track.
