It was mayhem in the mountains of WNC over the weekend, after a shootout between a suspect and deputies.
The Henderson County Sheriff's Office responded around 6PM Saturday night on a report that an armed man was threatening people at the North Mills River Campground. When deputies arrived a chase ensued.
The suspect later crashed his vehicle and reportedly shot at deputies from the vehicle and they returned fire. There's been no word on injuries from the incident and the suspect's identity has not been released, as of this time.
The deputies have been placed on administrative leave and the North Carolina SBI is investigating the incident, both are standard protocol in officer involved shootings.
