A woman who was left widowed after her husband was fatally shot by a deputy in Greenville County has filed a lawsuit. Robyn Mason has filed a wrongful death suit against the Greenville County Sheriff's Office.
The litigation stems from an incident in December of 2024. That's when deputies responded to a home in Travelers Rest on reports of a suicidal person. 66 year old Joseph Dominic Mason was shot after deputies arrived and found him with a gun in his hand on the porch. He later died after being taken to a hospital to be treated.
A few months later the shooting was ruled as justified after an investigation. Robyn Mason his widow has filed a suit that accuses deputies of failing to respond properly to her husband's mental health crisis.
The Sheriff's Office has not released any statement on the lawsuit, saying that it can not comment on pending litigation.
