Lee Zeldin is a a U.S. Congressman from New York who is running for Governor there. At a campaign event Thursday, Zeldin was attacked by a man armed with a weapon. He was able to subdue the attacker for a few moments and others then tackled him. He was not seriously injured in the incident. The attacker was then arrested and has since been released. Zeldin is the Republican nominee in New York's gubernatorial race, he faces Democrat Kathy Hochul in November's general election. One of Zeldin's main campaign platforms has been reducing the increasing crime rates in New York. Kathy Hochul is the incumbent and has been criticized by Zeldin and others for her weak stances on the crime problem in New York. With this happening at a campaign event, it makes Zeldin's crime platform seem even more real and relevant. New York has had just one Republican Governor since the last 45 years.
