Will the high cost of diesel fuel lead to more product shortages?

Recently, reports have surfaced that many independent owner-operator truck drivers are not operating as much. The reason is the cost of operation with high diesel prices, leave very little opportunity to turn a profit. AAA says that the national average Diesel price is $5.54 per gallon. Last week, diesel prices reached an all time recorded high of $5.57. Since the Covid pandemic supply chain issues have been an ongoing problem for all Americans. With the diesel prices at never seen before highs, that could increase those supply problems.
