WNC boarding school for girls shuts down after student deaths

A residential therapy school in Western North Carolina has closed after the deaths of two students there, just weeks apart. Asheville Academy says, they have released all of the students from their Weaverville Campus.

The school has decided to voluntarily close after they were ordered by state officials not to take in new students. That order came after a 13 year old girl took her own life there, in Early May. Just weeks later, a 12 year old girl also committed suicide at the school.


The company that owns the school had their nature therapy program in Western North Carolina closed last year. Trails Carolina in Transylvania County shutdown after the death of a 12 year old boy, last year.
