A Western North Carolina man is dead after a hiking accident there, last week. Emergency crews responded to Melrose Falls in Polk County, last Wednesday night.
Upon arrival, they found a man in the water only partially conscious. Officials say the hiker identified as 29 year old, Andrew Lee fell more than 50 feet into the water.
Lee was supposed to be airlifted but his condition kept getting worse. He was transported to a local hospital by ground. After being stabilized there he was flown to Spartanburg Regional, where he later died.
Lee was said to be living in Asheville, but had grown up in Polk County.
