A Western North Carolina man has been sentenced to prison after threatening police officers while armed during an incident, nearly three years ago.

42 year old, Jeromy Swaringen of Hendersonville was convicted Thursday on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon. The charge came after police responded to a report of a woman screaming at a home on Howard Gap Road in August of 2022.

Court records say when deputies arrived Swaringen came out with a shotgun pointed and them and refused to drop the weapon. Officers then fired at Swaringen, he was hit and suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Swaringen will serve between 4 and a half and 6 and half years in prison.
