WNC Police Officer suspended after weekend arrest

A newly sworn-in Asheville police officer is facing domestic violence charges. The Asheville Police Department says, Paul Anthony Duvernay III was arrested over the weekend for assault on a female.

Officers responded Friday night to the Palisades Circle Apartments for a trespassing call. After investigating, they obtained a warrant for Duvernay’s arrest.

Thought the incident occured inside Asheville city limits, Duvernay was arrested in Swannanoa and booked into the Buncombe County Detention Center on Saturday.  He’s being held without bond under a 48-hour domestic violence hold.

Duvernay has been placed on investigative suspension as the department conducts an internal investigation .Officials say no further details are being released, as of this time.
