WNC woman sentenced for making threats towards government officials

A Western North Carolina woman and an Illinois man will spend time behind bars after being charged with making interstate threats to government officials.

57 year old, Darris Gibson-Moody of Waynesville pled guilty in federal court to a charge of making interstate threatening communications. 57 year old, Timothy Michael Dever of Illinois entered guilty pleas to five counts of aiding and abetting interstate threats.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says that the two were part of an antigovernmental website. The site claimed to have writs of arrest for various officials and encouraged the public to make citizen's arrests on those the group targeted.

Federal officials say the writs of arrest were fake and that the targets were harassed, intimidated and some received death threats.

Dever the founder of the website, was sentenced to 10 years and Moody was given two years with three years of supervised probation to follow her release.

Both Dever and Moody are currently in custody awaiting transfer to federal prison.
