The new U.S. Senate has been sworn in and a Senator from here in the Palmetto State has made history. Senator Tim Scott is now the longest-serving African-American in the history of the Senate.
He will also be the 1st African-American to serve as the Chairman of a Senate Committee. Scott is set to lead the Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee.
He has served in the U.S. Senate since first being appointed by then Governor Nikki Haley in 2013.
