While last week saw a significant slowdown in reported measles cases with only a single new case, this week has so far seen eight new cases in connection to the ongoing Upstate outbreak of the disease.
The South Carolina Department of Public Health reports each of those cases are isolated to individuals in the same homes as those already in quarantine.
However, two of those cases’ infection sources are yet undetermined, raising concerns from DPH about potential transmission outside of quarantined households. DPH said this concern only grows as the holiday season approaches.
This brings the total cases in the state up to 46 for the year, 43 being a part of the outbreak.
Thirteen South Carolinians are currently quarantined with the disease.
