A major political announcement has come out of South Carolina's Capital City. State House Speaker Jay Lucas has announced he will not seek re-election this year. Lucas has opted to retire from state politics.
This news marks the 2nd such announcement in as many weeks, as House Majority Leader Gary Simrill voiced his intentions to retire after 3 decades in the State House. Lucas served 4 terms as House Speaker after 1st taking over position in 2014.
