Ceremony held to honor victims of fatal domestic violence

Attorney General led the event remembering 39 South Carolinians who died in incidents last year

The 24th annual Silent Witness Domestic Violence Ceremony was held Tuesday. The event was held in Columbia at the State Capitol Complex and was led by South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson. During the ceremony , Wilson read the names of the 24 women and 15 men who died as a result of criminal domestic violence last year.

Wilson said " “This is a sad and solemn occasion to commemorate the lives that were lost in the past year to domestic violence. “We must keep in mind that domestic violence affects people from all walks of life and we must work hard to break the cycle of abuse by understanding how violence impacts our community individually and collectively across the lifespan.”

The list included 11 victims from 6 Upstate counties.
