Ceremony held to honor victims of fatal domestic violence

The 25th Annual Silent Witness Ceremony was held Tuesday morning in Columbia. The ceremony honors victims killed in domestic disputes statewide each year. South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson read the names of the 37 women and 12 men in South Carolina, who died in such incidents last year.

Family members carried a life size silhouette representing each victim, as a bell was rung to honor them. Of the 49 total domestic violence related deaths in 2021, 13 of them happened in The Upstate.

Four from Spartanburg County, three in Greenville County, two from Laurens County and one each from Anderson, Pickens, Greenwood and Chester Counties.
