FDA reissues recall; highest level of risk

And now a not so great cup of "tea" on chai seeds.

The Food and Drug Administration reclassified a recall on chai seeds sold at Walmart due to possible salmonella poisoning.  The recall originally want out in May, but late in June the FDA reclassified the recall to "Class I" – the highest risk level, which could cause injury or death.

The recall is for "Great Value Organic Black Chia Seeds 32 oz."

The maker of the product,  Natural Sourcing International, initiated the voluntary recall due to the potential presence of Salmonella.

According to the FDA, The chai seeds were sold at Walmart stores in 11 states, including GEORGIA. The product was also sold in Alabama, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, Ohio, Texas and Wisconsin. The impacted products have lot numbers ending in "C018" along with an expiration date of Oct. 30, 2026.

According to Natural Sourcing International no adverse events associated with the products have been reported to date.

Those who bought the recalled chia seeds should throw them away.  Natural Sourcing International said the products will be replaced with proof of purchase. To read more from the Food and Drug Administration, click HERE.
