Dr. Crystal “Crissie” Stapleton was sworn in at the Tuesday State Board of Education meeting as the board’s new chair.
Dr. Stapleton of Barnwell County began her education career teaching in Anderson School District One in 2001, serving in several positions including an assistant principal and director of curriculum until become assistant superintendent of Barnwell School District 45 in 2015.
She has also served as the superintendent of the same district since 2017 and was selected to represent the Second Circuit on the State Board of Education in 2019.
“The State Board of Education is committed to carrying out its task of ensuring that our state public education system is constantly improving,” Dr. Stapleton said she looks forward to taking up her role as the new chair.
Additionally, four other members who have completed their board terms and are rotating off the board, including Carl Hinze, who represented the Spartanburg and Cherokee areas.
