An FBI Ten Most Wanted fugitive accused of killing a Charlotte woman nearly 10 years ago has been arrested in Mexico, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Alejandro “Alex” Rosales Castillo, 27, was taken into custody Thursday in Pachuca, in the Mexican state of Hidalgo. The arrest was announced Saturday by the FBI, along with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Federal officials say the FBI’s Legal Attaché Office in Mexico City worked with Mexican authorities to track down and detain Castillo. Those agencies included the Agencia de Investigación Criminal-INTERPOL and Mexico’s Secretaría de Seguridad y Protección Ciudadana.
Castillo had been on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list in connection with the Charlotte homicide.
Castillo is awaiting extradition to North Carolina.
According to the CMPD, "Castillo was added to the Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list on October 24, 2017. Castillo is charged with murdering 23-year-old Truc Quan “Sandy” Ly Le. The Charlotte, North Carolina, woman’s body was found on August 17, 2016, in a wooded area in Cabarrus County. A state arrest warrant was issued in the District Court of North Carolina, for Mecklenburg County on November 2, 2016, charging Castillo with first-degree murder. On February 10, 2017, a federal arrest warrant was issued in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina, charging Castillo with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution."
