The U.S. Government will seek the death penalty against a Pee Dee area man accused of killing an EMS worker and a law enforcement officer.
35 year old, Jaremy Alexander Smith of Marion is charged with killing both an EMS worker from there and a New Mexico State Police Officer.
The U.S. Attorney General's Office has authorized prosecutors with the District of South Carolina to seek the death penalty against Smith. The indictment says in March of 2024 he stole a woman's vehicle in Marion, he then took her to a remote area and fatally shot her, execution style.
Smith then took the vehicle and drove it to New Mexico and later killed State Police Officer Justin Hare. Last year, the State of New Mexico sentenced Smith to life in prison, as they don't have the death penalty.
Smith appeared in federal court in Florence, Thursday afternoon.
